I actually painted this miniature up for a friend for his birthday back in 2002 or 2003. As he is not a big miniature gamer, let along a Chainmail player, it did not need to fit into a pre-existing scheme and I could just paint it in a way that fit him (or, if anything, a character he might play in an RPG). The base is supposed to be evocative of stones or large tiles. Again, this was among some of the first miniatures that I felt "came out well" and my style has evolved much more since then.
